Area School Districts Face Budget Crunch

area_educators_copyState general fund revenue collections for the first six months of the current fiscal year are down nearly 30 percent from the previous year ---- with the end of the downturn nowhere in sight.

Beginning in August, allocations to state agencies were reduced by 5 percent.  In December and January this cut was increased to ten percent.

The revenue shortfall has left the Oklahoma State Department of Education and local school districts struggling to make ends meet in very difficult economic times.
